ARCHAEOLOGY
Staff archaeologists are rare at historic sites. The Coastal Heritage Society has two
archaeologists that work in the Curatorial Department. We usually do archaeology on CHS
venues, but we also work in the Savannah region on special projects such as Savannah Under
Fire, 1779: Identifying Savannah's Revolutionary War Battlefield. So far, CHS archaeologists
have conducted 30 projects at our historic sites.
CHS archaeologists are responsible for conducting fieldwork, lab work (washing, sorting, and
analyzing artifacts as well as database entry), maintaining a Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) database, writing reports, curating the artifacts, and sharing our newly found history with
the public! Any questions? Visit our FAQ!

ARCHAEOFEST
The Curatorial Department also sponsors ArchaeoFest. This archaeology festival has many
hands-on activities, presentations from archaeologists around the region, puppet shows, lectures
and exhibits, art projects, posters, and games for all ages.
With every festival, we add new activities and exhibits. ArchaeoFest is also available in a
program version for schools and other groups. Visit Educators & Scouts for more information
about educational programming.
