PRIVACY POLICY
COASTAL HERITAGE SOCIETY PRIVACY POLICY
The Website for Coastal Heritage Society (CHS) is designed to provide useful information to the public about CHS historic sites and unique museums, interpretive programs, educational resources and general operating information.
Information Collection Policies
CHS has developed Website policies and practices which are intended to respect and protect the privacy and safety of its visitors. CHS's policy is that no personal information will be collected from its users unless the user chooses to provide such information. Further, CHS limits itself to the collection of information that does not personally identify the user. Except in the case of e-commerce transactions, handled through contracted, secure third party vendors, the Website will collect only a small portion of the Personally Identifiable Information components on its users (specific components collected are listed below). Personally Identifiable Information components include, but may not be limited to, first and last name, street address, telephone number. Registration on the site is not required to access any information or to participate in any of the activities.
From time to time, however, CHS may collect limited identifiable information, such as an e-mail address, when users send in responses or submittals to our on-line activities.
CHS does reserve the right to contract with secure third party vendors to conduct specific e-commerce transactions, such as membership sales and retail store sales. For e-commerce transactions, the collection of Personally Identifiable Information will be required. This information will be processed through and stored on secure servers. Adult visitors electing to participate in on-line transactions may be transferred from the CHS Website to that of the specific third party vendor.
Use of Collected Information
The information collected via registration will not be shared or provided to any other party, except in the aggregate. We will share broad demographic information to those parties with which we establish strategic alliances and from which we receive significant sponsorship of the Website. No specific user information will be provided.
As is true for many Websites, CHS collects and analyzes information that will help it improve the site. In addition to the information provided directly from site users, CHS will collect IP addresses, browser type and domain names to garner broad demographic information. CHS does not currently use cookies to collect information on users of the site. However, cookies may be used by CHS's third party vendors during e-commerce transactions.
Links to Other Sites
CHS's Website contains links to other sites. It should be noted that CHS's privacy policy does not apply to other sites and that CHS cannot be responsible for the privacy policies, if any, or the security of other sites. Users of the Web should be careful about providing personal information via Websites.
CHS will employ the use of "bumper pages" at certain times throughout the site, to inform users when they are leaving the CHS Web site and moving to a different site.
Parental Consent
E-mail confirmation by an adult parent/guardian is required prior to posting any materials sent from a child onto the Website or to be displayed at CHS historic sites and museums.
Security
The importance of security in regard to CHS's Website and the information provided by users is of utmost concern. CHS staff will exercise great care in providing secure transmission of user's information to and storage on CHS's Web server. However, it is not possible to guarantee 100% secure transmission over the Internet. Therefore, CHS cannot insure or warrant the security of any information transmitted to CHS or to its contracted, third party vendors, and the user does so at his/her own risk. Once the transmitted information has been received at CHS's Web server, CHS staff will make its best effort to insure security on CHS's system.
Changes to Privacy Policy
From time to time, it may be necessary for Coastal Heritage Society to change or update this privacy policy. The user is encouraged to review this policy periodically. In addition, e-mail notices will be sent to currently registered users of the site notifiying them of any change to this policy.
Acceptance of These Terms
By using this site, the user signifies his/her consent to the Coastal Heritage Society's Privacy Policy. If the user does not agree to this policy, he/she should not use the site. Continued use of the site following the posting of changes to these terms will mean that the user agrees to accept such changes.
